Like me, Cynthia and Russell love dogs. So much so, they invite our beloved fur babies right into their home; no kennels, no cages – just a comfortable, wide open space with plenty of light, lots of places to sleep, and lots of love.
I am thrilled when others from “away” recognize the privilege of living here, as well. It makes my heart happy to see families and business owners relocating to be here, in Piscataquis County. When this happens, it creates a stir in the atmosphere – new life, new excitement, new possibilities.
According to Chris, the journey has been both rewarding and exciting, but over the past couple of years, he has been feeling the pull to come back to his roots, here in Piscataquis County, where he will continue his successful career at the Red Maple Inn. Aren’t we lucky?
We get caught up in what’s coming… tomorrow, next week, next year, or when we retire. We plan our futures. We forget to be present — to see what is right in front of us, right here, right now. And we miss opportunities – sometimes really big ones, that would tremendously impact what the future will look like. As we were walking through the workshop, Dominic pointed out where the stacks of wood he was working with had come from, what made each unique and what he planned to build with them.
Yes, it’s a lot of work. yes, it’s absolutely insane to see 10,000 people showing up in a town with a population of 4,000. Planning takes months, and sometimes I feel like I’m losing my mind in the process, but on that day, man is it so worth it.
The changes happening here are beneficial, long-term. I believe we are working SMARTER in this county. We are working together. We are thinking about the future. One thing I know for sure. I will not stop. I will pursue them, speak life over them, give them every opportunity I have within my power to give them. I will not rest until I see the change. What choice do we have? These kids are our future. Without them, we have nothing.
One thing I love about hardware stores in rural communities is that they carry a myriad of items you would never expect to find.
When Belle first crossed to center stage in her golden gown, all eyes were on her, and it was an emotional moment. I literally heard and felt awe sweep over the audience and actually saw several folks wiping away tears. It was just… well, what’s the word? Oh yes, m a g i c a l.
