A year of blessings

Recently, I was contacted by Elaine King, the owner of Country Blessings in Milo. She came across my blog on the Milo Manor, and was intrigued by the promotion the Chamber was doing for local business, specifically through social media, which we had not done before. She wanted to discuss membership, which is what brought me to her shoppe.

IMG_1677I have been in many sweet gift shops throughout the county and have even blogged about a couple of them. Each has their own charm, and each carries items unique from the others. From the moment I walked into Country Blessings, I knew it would be an enjoyable visit. This is one of those places that just keeps getting better with every corner turned. This is a craft, home décor and consignment shop, also selling antiques and vintage items. Elaine has a remarkable ability to make things look beautiful. She displays and sells items from over 60 local vendors here, offering them a wonderful opportunity to run a business without the expense of owning their own space. The products she sells are just beautiful, new and old, all in excellent condition, priced to sell. There were items I was expecting to see, such as hand-made treasures and jewelry, decorative items, and other knick-knacks, but there were also some surprises. One of my hobbies is jewelry-making, so I was thrilled to find a large section of beads, hardware and findings for jewelry creation. There is a great selection of greeting cards and gift tags, extremely convenient for picking up a quick gift.

I brought my camera, expecting to snap a few photos. Almost an hour later, I was still clicking away. I was amazed at the quality and the eclectic selection of items in this place, which changes sometimes on a daily basis as new items come in through consignment. For example, hiding innocently in a half-zipped soft guitar case, I found a Washburn D10 guitar in perfect condition, except for one broken string. I won’t mention how low the price was because if it’s still there on Friday night I may have to take it home with me!

Rather than make an inadequate attempt to describe everything I saw during my visit,  I posted a lot of photos below for your enjoyment.

If you have never visited, this Friday, August 29th would be the perfect time to do so. Why? Country Blessings will host a party to celebrate one year in business. An open house begins at 2pm, local food vendors will begin selling burgers, hot dogs, chicken, salads, beverages, and desserts at 5pm, and live music begins at 6:30pm. Elaine’s talented brother Chris Heard will be the entertainment, playing folk and blues on his guitar.  The celebration will run until about 9pm. All you have to bring is a lawn chair and a friend or two, there is no admission charge. Spread the news! If you would like more information about the event or the shoppe, call Elaine at 299-3486.

One more thing: Elaine is wonderful, truly; friendly, warm, and inviting. Once you’ve been here, coming back will be as natural as visiting an old friend.

When you stop in, please tell her Denise from the Chamber said “hello”.

Until next time, thank you for taking a Peek into Piscataquis. See you at the party!
