Had a wonderful visit with Jemma at her studio in Blanchard Maine, another Piscataquis secret, and “WOW” is all I can say.
Visually stunning pieces, so unique and saturated with color, cleverly designed and crafted. Each piece is a labor of love and is a result of many careful steps, and many hours.
There are several pieces that have a common theme and would look lovely placed throughout several rooms of a home. I also really loved her wall-pottery, which I had never seen before.. pottery you can hang on your wall! So unique!
Jemma visualizes, creates and completes her works of art out of her studio and often collaborates with local artists for the paint design of her pieces. She is a wonderful supporter of the talent in our area. In fact, as I walked through her studio to learn more about her work, she would stop to show me paintings or creations from other artists in the area, such as Bruce Towl of Dover-Foxcroft, Alan Bray of Sangerville, Michael Kagan of Sebec, Lisa Laser of Dover-Foxcroft, and Milt Christanson of Wellington. She was very proud of her husband’s work as well, Todd Watts, who happens to be a world-renowned artist and photographer. What a couple!
This incredible artist is also a teacher. She thoroughly enjoys teaching her craft, and is even involved in teaching pottery at Piscataquis middle schools for advanced art students. She offers workshops at her studio. More information can be found on her website, www.jemmagascoine.com.
Her gallery features her work and has a stunning view of her backyard, complete with a lovely brook which runs through.
This post contains photos from my visit. To purchase pieces pictured here, or to sign up for a workshop, contact Jemma at Jemma@jemmagascoine.com or 207-997-3699, and tell her the Chamber sent you!
Until next time, thank you again for taking a Peek into Piscataquis!
